Comic Tom Davis issues England rallying cry (despite betting on Spain)

Comedian Tom Davis has issued a rallying cry to Thomas Tuchel’s England team who started their World Cup campaign with an eye-catching victory over Croatia.

The Three Lions had to wait a week to kick off their involvement in the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, but put on a good performance with Harry Kane (2), Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford scoring.

Davis is a well-known West Ham fan who frequently incorporates his love of football into his stand-up comedy and podcast appearances.

He has also been a regular guest on football shows like Soccer AM and talkSPORT.

And prior to facing Croatia in Dallas, funnyman Davis, who fronts the new Betfair campaign said: “It’s game time England. Let our voices be heard across this green and pleasant land where our tea is strong, but our opinions are stronger and nobody’s ever wrong.

“Where we argue like it’s a sport, and most days we care more about that than the game.

“4-4-2, inverted fallbacks, sack him, keep him. These aren’t just debates, they’re what tie us together. So don’t hold back. Say it, mean it, argue it. Yeah, with passion, with noise, with no fear of contradiction.

“When the whistle blows and that first ball is kicked, nothing else matters. Not the noise, not the arguments, just 11 shirts and all of us behind them. Come on, England!

“And for 90 minutes we’re not strangers, we’re not divided, we’re one. Because there’s one thing we don’t think, we don’t hope, we know… It’s coming home.

“Although I do have a cheeky 5 pounds on Spain to win, which I feel a bit bad about.”

Henry has spent many years writing about different sports across the world, but now focuses on the Premier League and EFL. As a West Ham fan, that has proved to be very useful :)
