- West Ham sit two points from safety in the Premier League
- The Hammers face Newcastle United this weekend
- The team needs Tottenham Hotspur to slip up
West Ham United sit two points from safety in the Premier League, with two games to go. The Hammers are coming off a difficult 1-0 loss to Arsenal, where VAR stole the headlines as West Ham’s late equaliser was ruled out.
Now, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team face two final games where they will have to fight for their life and hope that Tottenham Hotspur, who sit just above them, slip up. This weekend, the Hammers head north, to take on Newcastle United, before finishing the season at home against Leeds United.
Midfielders Mateus Fernandes and Tomas Soucek have both said that this West Ham team will fight to the end, and now a star defender has joined in, saying the Hammers will never give up.
Konstantinos Mavropanos says West Ham will keep performing
Speaking to the club’s official website, Konstantinos Mavropanos says that West Ham will keep putting on performances and will fight until the very end to stay in the Premier League.
“Our performance [against Arsenal] was really good from all the guys, we were just unlucky in the last situation,” he said.
“It’s a tough moment for us because of our performance. I don’t think we deserved what we got on Sunday. It’s difficult, but the only thing we have to do is keep working for the last few games and then we’ll see where we’ll be.
“From our side we just have to keep going and perform as we did on Sunday because we showed a great performance and this is what we have to do in the last few games as well.
“We are in a very difficult situation because it’s not in our hands. We have to see what’s going on as of now [with Tottenham’s result against Leeds].
“In the other games [we have still to play], the only thing we have to do is keep working like we do, working with each other we can get the best results from the last two games and after that, we will see where we will be.”
