- West Ham lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday
- VAR controversially ruled out a late equaliser for the Hammers
- Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Leeds United to make the gap two points
West Ham United’s Premier League survival hopes took another blow as they lost 1-0 to Arsenal at the London Stadium on Sunday. The Hammers held their own, equalising in the dying seconds before VAR cruelly removed the goal in controversial circumstances.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men held their own for much of the game and only went behind due to a wicked deflection from Leandro Trossard’s shot. Most would say they deserved their equaliser, but the officiating team made a decision that could have repercussions at both end of the table with West Ham, rightly, feeling hard done by.
The Irons loss left the door open for Tottenham Hotspur to make the gap to safety five points. Instead, Spurs could not hold off Leeds United on Monday night, drawing 1-1. They will know head to Chelsea next week, whilst the Hammers go north to Newcastle United. All is still to play for.

Nottingham Forest held Newcastle United to a 1-1 draw with Elliot Anderson scoring late against his former club. Forest’s result, combined with West Ham’s loss on Sunday, now means that Forest are safe in the Premier League, making it a two horse race for survival.
Above the, Crystal Palace also drew, fighting out a 2-2 draw with Everton. Should results go their way, the Hammers could be reliant on Everton on the final day, with the Toffees hosting Spurs as they go for Europe this season.
Leeds United sit in 14th after doing the Irons a favour and holding off Spurs. The Lilywhites scored a late penalty and had chances to win the game as they prepare for another season in the top flight.
The bottom two
Burnley put a dent in Aston Villa’s top five campaign as they drew 2-2 at Turf Moor. Unai Emery’s side are still likely to make Champions League qualification this season, but Burnley put on a good showing to mean it will go down to the last two games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers had an opportunity to take themselves off the bottom of the table but quite simply did not show up against Brighton & Hove Albion. The 3-0 loss now means that Wolves have conceded 66 goals this season.
