- West Ham beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday
- The three points keeps the Hammers out of the bottom three
- The gap between West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur remains two points
West Ham United secured a huge three points as they beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday. The win keeps the Hammers out of the bottom three and keeps Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Wolverhampton Wanderers, in the relegation zone.
Tomas Soucek netted the opener for West Ham before Nuno Espirito Santo’s team were pegged back as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall equalized for the Toffees. It took Callum Wilson to come up with a last minute winner to get the Hammers the victory.
There was a lot to like about the Irons performance, as they controlled the tempo for much of the match. West Ham were made to work for it, but delivered once again, finding a way to win under immense pressure.
Whilst there is still a long way to go for Nuno’s team, the signs are good as they fight with Spurs to avoid the final relegation position.
Martin Keown reveals what impressed him about West Ham’s performance
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, former Arsenal and England defender, Martin Keown, has revealed just what it is that impressed him about West Ham’s performance in the win.
“Mavropanos has done well, but Disasi, he was in that bomb squad at Chelsea, this is a West Ham fan on the pitch. This is early on, he’s saying to Barry, ‘I’m in charge here’.
“Soucek, another one, another giant of a man. Gets to it first, really important role he plays in the club. Look at this authority [from Disasi]. The way he responds afterwards, ‘Give me more of this’.
“Some of the defending as well from Soucek, Diouf, and Disasi gets one away, and they are giving everything on that pitch, I love it, I love watching it.
“It’s inspired defending from Soucek [to clear off the line]. You can see them pulling it off now. I never thought they could. It’s all come from the manager, an incredible transformation. The unity in that stadium. The West Ham fans go away feeling hope.”
The Hammers attention now turns to Brentford, who they face on Saturday looking for another three points.
