  • The Hammers can move five points clear of the bottom three
  • Everton are chasing Europe this season

West Ham United host Everton this afternoon in a huge game at the London Stadium. The Hammers could go five points clear at full-time and create a big gap between them and the relegation zone.

It won’t be easy, with former West Ham boss bringing an Everton side still very much in the fight for Europe this season. The Toffees have suffered some injuries recently, but come with a squad strong enough to get a result.

Tomas Soucek, who has become one of the Hammers most important player in the run-in, has told the club’s official website he knows how important this game is.

“I am very happy that it’s in our hands,” Souček began. “That’s the most important thing and we want to keep it that way until the end. I can’t say how many points we need, but we have to go [forward and] now I think only about the Everton match.

“We know that we are now playing the final five matches, we know that it’s in our hands, and that’s something we want to do and it’s a big goal for us and for our fans.

“It’s a big game for us at home against Everton and we all want three points from that game.”

All business for Soucek and West Ham, despite Moyes return

Soucek admits it will be nice to see Moyes, who brought the 31-year-old to the club in 2020, but says as soon as the whistle goes, it is all focus on business for him and West Ham.

“Obviously we all know that David Moyes did an unbelievable job for the Club, and I was with him here for many years, so I have a great connection with him,” Soucek confirmed. “I think it would be nice to see him before and after the game, but the 90 minutes will be my full focus for the team.

“He did a really great job. He’s one of the best managers West Ham have ever had, so it’s unbelievable and I think the fans will applaud him when he comes, but I don’t want to compare teams before and teams now. It’s a totally different team, so we built something new again and we want to save this Club [from relegation].

“We have this goal to do it and we have different guys, and we all believe that this team can stay in this league.

“I want to be a big part of this season. I am ready to fight and do my maximum for the Club. If I can help West Ham get out of relegation, then I will be super happy!”
