Former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur boss give his verdict on relegation

West Ham United are still in the thick of a relegation battle this season. A 0-0 draw with AFC Bournemouth leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s side two points off the pace. It’s Nottingham Forest who currently hold the last safe spot, but the Hammers are not only just chasing them down, with Tottenham Hotspur falling into sight, only a further two points above.

Former West Ham and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been having his say on the bottom three. The 78-year-old is more well know for his time at White Hart Lane, but is hoping that both of his former team’s stay up, at the expense of Forest.

Speaking the Sky Sports, Redknapp stated seeing either team go down would hurt, and said both team’s have more than enough to stay in the Premier League:

“I’ve got a foot in both camps, West Ham, I want them to stay up as well, so I’m hoping that both teams stay up, then that leaves Notts [Nottingham] Forest, who are a great club.

“One of the three of them are going to go, I can’t see anybody else. Probably Burnley will go they’re trying but I think they’re going to go with Wolves. Wolves have gone for sure.

“Then it’s a toss-up between Forest, West Ham and Spurs, and Spurs are as much in it as the other two. It’s going to be tight.”

West Ham’s current predicament

As things stand, it’s West Ham who are in the bottom three. Despite this, Nuno’s side are the in-form team out of Spurs and Forest. Both teams have recently changed manager, whilst the Hammers have been improving defensively and gaining momentum.

Going into next weeks fixture’s, only West Ham will head into their game with Liverpool not coming off a loss. The Irons are two points behind Forest, and four behind Spurs, with things seriously heating up for all involved.

Whilst Nottingham Forest have brought in Lorenzo Lucca, West Ham have strengthened in more key areas. Valentin Castellanos being one key player to take over the front line. Axel Disasi has slotted into the backline and could be the most important signing of the window for Nuno’s men.

The form of Konsantinos Mavropanos and other defenders has the Hammers with a really good chance at taking control, it’s all about which team will take that chance now.
