Ian Wright critical of ‘poor’ Arthur Masuaku display

Former Premier League striker Ian Wright has lamented the performance of West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku against Southampton.

The Hammers fell to a narrow defeat at the London Stadium following a disappointing display across the entire side.

However, Masuaku was in the firing line after the 28-year-old versatile star struggled throughout a 90-minute display.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright was critical of the DR Congo international.

He’s just committed himself there, Masuaku. He had a poor game.

Masuaku earned a 6.50 Sofascore rating for an outing consisting of two clearances, four tackles and the loss of possession on 16 occasions.

So far this season the 10-cap ace has scored once in 16 appearances across all competitions.

Albeit far from a vintage West Ham display under David Moyes, Masuaku was certainly among the underperformers on a dismal day.

Clearly not first-choice when Aaron Cresswell is fit and available, outings such as this won’t endear Moyes to utilising the £4.5million valued man more regularly moving forwards.

Still an experienced operator, it’s Masuaku’s versatility that makes the former Olympiacos man a worthy squad member.

matchday.
