Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been lauding West Ham star Declan Rice.
The 22-year-old was once again at the heart of the Hammers’ display as David Moyes’ side earned all three points over London rivals Tottenham.
Rice was a dominant presence in the midfield and has this season added more attacking impetus to a well-honed all-round game.
Speaking to Premier League Productions before kick-off at the London Stadium, Scholes was full of praise for the England international.
I think he has been right up there for the last year or so. Again, he is a player who plays the position brilliantly. He reads the play. He senses danger. You see him intercepting all the time. He’s not just got that to his game. He has also got this side to it (driving forward). He has got a bit of Steven Gerrard about him. He has really added that drive and that way of playing to create chances for his team. I did think, at one point, he would be a centre-back. But I think he is now turning into a complete midfield player.
Rice was in inspired form for the Irons and competed all five attempted long passes, made two interceptions and produced one clearance (Sofascore).
So far this season the 27 times capped ace has scored twice and registered two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions.

High praise indeed.
There has definitely been a shift in the momentum of Rice’s game this term as the previously defensive-minded midfielder looks to influence play in an attacking sense.
Valued at £63million and under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), praise such as this further rubber stamps Moyes’ £100million plus comments.
