West Ham first-team coach Stuart Pearce has been praising the atmosphere at the London Stadium during the Irons’ 4-1 win over Leicester City on Monday night.
The Hammers faithful were in full voice on their return to a capacity crowd and the players responded in kind on the pitch.
There was certainly plenty to cheer on a night where Michail Antonio broke records and David Moyes’ side went top of the Premier League table.
Speaking on talkSPORT (Monday, August 24 9:00am), Pearce was delighted with the reaction from the fans.
It was sensational. I’ve never been one to subscribe to the atmosphere at the new stadium. You create your own atmosphere and the crowd were a reflection of the football. They were so pleased with the performance and the atmosphere was fantastic. We need more days like that.
The 59-year-old was also asked about potential transfers as the summer window reaches its final week.
We permanently have this summer (been looking for players). That will go on until the last minute of the window. If the right player can come in. With the standard David [Moyes] has set, the market we are looking at has diminished. We’ve got to look at whether the play can get into this team if we are paying a few million quid for them. We are victims of our own success. We are not just bringing bodies in for the sake of it, they have been the right ones.

Although things couldn’t be rosier in the garden at West Ham right now, there is no doubt an active final week in the window would fill fans with far greater optimism.
Currently, the squad only has to cope with one game per week, a scenario that will be reversed when the Europa League begins along with domestic cup action.
One thing we can all agree on is the need for more atmospheres like Monday night, something European football could well bring and exceed.
