Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has claimed West Ham could struggle to offload midfield duo Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini this summer.
This follows a report from the Evening Standard suggesting the Irons would look to cash in on both attack-minded midfielders in the close season in order to raise funds for David Moyes’ own targets.
Anderson has endured a difficult loan spell away from the London Stadium this term, whilst Lanzini reportedly was close to leaving the club in January with Paris Saint-Germain keen.
This week, Whelan, who played 243 times in the top-flight, has told Football Insider it mightn’t be easy for the Hammers to find willing suitors.
It’s not an easy one to get players out and command wages. Everyone’s trying to make a cut to keep their financial system and status in as happy a way as possible. That might mean they can’t pay out big wages to players that are already on big contracts. It’s not going to be an easy one to force players out of a club or find suitable buyers that have that amount of money that will match the players’ expectations.
Moyes will be looking to bring in a striker to act as cover for Michail Antonio at least, as well as the potential permanent signing of loan sensation Jesse Lingard.

Lanzini has played just 406 minutes of Premier League football this season, leading to the conclusion the Argentine’s time in east London will be coming to an end.
Valued at £9m (Transfermarkt) and with two years left on his contract the Hammers will be looking to recoup a reasonable fee.
