Tammy Abraham Will Relish West Ham Move [Opinion]

Thomas Tuchel’s throwing-down of the gauntlet is the perfect incentive for Tammy Abraham to take his services to the London Stadium, with West Ham increasingly likely to secure European football next season.

Tuchel, benching Abraham for tactical reasons, admitted his purely strategic foundation behind his neglect of the target man as the Blues ground out a tense goalless draw with Manchester United.

Chelsea’s recent form under Tuchel has certainly branded the league with a mark of intent, but the 6-cap England international could be a victim of the German tactician’s own tactical nous.

“This situation is totally natural, he has to do exactly what he does; train well, be in a good mood and accept that he is a striker for Chelsea so this is the highest competition in Europe,” said Tuchel as he challenged the striker [via TEAMTalk].

“When you play for Chelsea, it is a difficult decision I have to take and I am very, very happy when I have to take them because it means everybody is on board.

“This is what you sign up for if you are a player for Chelsea, a coach for Chelsea, that these moments arrive.

“There is no other answer to it other than to accept it and be there on Monday to fight for your place in the squad. I am sure he will do it.”

The real question remains as to whether Abraham feels he deserves to be a star player elsewhere.

Under David Moyes, Abraham would represent a young hungry home-grown talent with a proven prolific record at the highest echelons of world football.

With just Michail Antonio to compete with, Abraham could be a long-term option to lead the line for years to come – and Moyes’ European push would be the final lure to ensnare Abraham in claret and blue.

Moyes has a well-oiled unit firing on all cylinders towards the top league spots, which should be more than enough to convince Abraham that West Ham are undoing the malaise of the past in order to lay a new bedrock of success.

With two years still left to run on his deal, Chelsea will leverage their asset – quite rightly – for every penny they can get from potential suitors.

Conversely, the real risk is not signing a talent of Abraham’s pedigree and should he become available, the Irons must place Abraham at the top of their wanted list.
