The latest reports linking West Ham with a move for 49-goal Serie A striker Giovanni Simeone represent more than just another transfer rumour – it could also hint at a tactical revamp from David Moyes.
Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio recently confirmed the Hammers’ interest in the Cagliari hitman, who is the son of long-time Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
When evaluating a striker, their height might not be the first thing one would ordinarily look at, but at 5 foot 9 (1.81m), his stature is quite telling.
Pursuing a striker of his height would represent a stark departure from the likes of the robust 1.9m-tall Sebastien Haller, who recently left the Irons to join Ajax.
Other reported transfer targets such as Odsonne Edouard and Youssef En-Nesyri – the Hammers have already bid for the latter – who are above the 6ft mark, seem to fit the profile of tall strikers with strong aerial abilities to lead the line.
Simeone contrasts this. According to WhoScored, the 25-year-old is prized mostly for his pace and power, with flair in dribbling and even getting stuck in to tackles.
This hard-working creative style resembles that of Michail Antonio, who exhibited his powerful mobility against West Brom as brutally as it was beautiful. His solo run on Tuesday evening certainly caught attention, and Simeone seems to cut a similar mould.

This could have long-term implications for the Hammers.
If the Simeone rumours materialise into a formal offer, it suggests that Moyes may be looking to prioritise pace and agility in his centre-forward targets ahead of height and strength.
Consequently, West Ham’s attacks may revolve around getting in behind defences and beating opponents in duels as opposed to holding up the ball and feeding in other options.
Keep an eye out on the Simeone rumours – the Irons could be on for a tactical shake-up.
