Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has endorsed West Ham‘s reported interest in Rangers defender Borna Barisic.
In an interview with Football Insider, Campbell – who has scored 83 Premier League goals – said that signing the Croatian would be a ‘really good move’ by the Hammers.
The 28-year-old left-back has been backed to come in at the London Stadium and provide cover for Aaron Cresswell following Arthur Masuaku’s knee surgery earlier this month.
Barisic has been a magnificent creative outlet for Steven Gerrard’s side this season as the ‘Gers look to put a stop to Celtic’s charge to 10 consecutive Scottish Premiership titles. The Croatian has made 26 appearances this season, contributing with no fewer than 10 assists from left-back (Transfermarkt).
Campbell believes that David Moyes’ squad would benefit greatly from the enhanced competition for places that Barisic could provide.
He told Football Insider: “Cresswell has done pretty well. I think it would be a good signing – obviously, you need two good players for every position. There’s going to be suspensions, injuries, etc. so you need someone capable to come in. He’s younger so it could be a really good move.”

Barisic would provide ready-made cover for Cresswell in the absence of Masuaku if he were to make the move to east London.
It remains to be seen whether the Croatia international would forego regular first team football at Ibrox for what would likely be an understudy role, initially at least.
Valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt and having had an £8m price tag placed on in amid interest from Leeds United last year, the price point would likely be favourable to the Irons hierarchy.
