West Ham could sell full-back Ryan Fredericks in January if his valuation is met, according to club insiders Claret & Hugh.
Fredericks has struggled to establish himself at London Stadium since joining in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer after leaving then Championship side Fulham, becoming Manuel Pellegrini’s first signing as Irons manager.
The 27-year-old has endured numerous injuries since joining the Hammers, including a hamstring problem which kept him out of some of the early weeks this season.
It now seems the club may be ready to cut their losses and sell the player in the upcoming January window, despite his contract running until 2022, should the Irons receive an adequate offer.
It is a decision which may have been brought about owing to the form of summer signing Vladimir Coufal, who has been superb at right-back since arriving from Slavia Prague.
Former England under-19 international Fredericks has made 48 appearances for the Hammers so far, although he may not add many more to that total, judging by the reports on his future with the Irons.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
When signed as a long-term replacement for the retired Pablo Zabaleta, there was plenty of optimism around Fredericks following his fine performances for Fulham.
Injuries coupled with inconsistent performances may now bring an early end to his time in east London.
Coufal’s impact has been outstanding in a short space of time and youngster Ben Johnson, who himself has strugged with injuries, is highly regarded at the club and is likely to be the main full-back alternative, which may spell the end of Fredericks’ time with West Ham.
