West Ham make officla bid for Maksimovic

West Ham United have placed a bid for Napoli’s Nikola Maksimovic, according to a report from Football Insider.

David Moyes has recruited lightly in this window, with midfielder Tomas Soucek being the only first-team recruit, however, that could be about to change after the £20m offer for Maksimovic.

The central defender has been at the Serie A giants since 2016, becoming a key figure in the past few seasons. Notably, he played the full 90 minutes in Napoli’s 2020 Coppa Italia final victory over Juventus.

With doubts about his future at the Stadio San Paolo, the 28-year-old has not started a game this season, however he did make a substitute appearance in Sunday’s 6-0 demolition against Genoa.

It would not be farfetched for Moyes to recruit another defensive option before the transfer deadline, given that he has utilised three central defenders in his last two Premier League starting line-ups.

The price tag appears reasonable for a proven Champions League player too, yet time will tell whether this move comes to fruition.
