West Ham turn their attention to Arsenal’s Calum Chambers

West Ham are reportedly eyeing up Arsenal defender Calum Chambers in an attempt to solidify their backline for the upcoming season.

Reports emerged following the rejection of a second bid for Burnley’s James Tarkowski, as gaffer Sean Dyche is reluctant to let the Englishmen leave Turf Moor. The most recent offer was believed to be worth around £24.5million, whereas Burnley value the player at around £40million.

The Telegraph report that The Hammers could, instead, be lining up a loan move for Chambers, who is valued at £12 million.

The 25-year-old has yet to feature for the Gunners this season due to injury. The player has spent two spells out on loan for clubs Middlesborough and Fulham during his time at Arsenal and it looks like West Ham are willing to give him a chance of another move.

West Ham are yet to get going in the Premier League this season, with an opening day defeat against Newcastle United followed by a narrow 2-1 loss to Arsenal.

The Hammers have a tough upcoming run of league fixtures where they next face Wolves before two consecutive away games to Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. They will then title-chasing rivals Manchester City and Liverpool back to back so the need to get reinforcements in is clear.
