According to a report on the Daily Star, French club Marseille have offered Tottenham Hotspur the chance to sign midfielder Maxime Lopez for just £10m, but there’s one problem.
The Ligue 1 side have offered the same deal to London rivals West Ham, who are also interested in securing his signature.
Spanish La Liga side Sevilla are also understood to be interested in the central midfielder, whose negotiations regarding a new contract recently stalled.
His deal with Marseille expires at the end of next season and as stated in the report, instead of losing him for free, the club is keen to cash in on him whilst they still can, making him available for just £10m.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Would signing Lopez suit West Ham?
Absolutely.
We feel midfield is an obvious area of improvement for the Hammers, who have had to keep using captain Mark Noble despite his below-par performances in recent months.
With Carlos Sanchez and injury-prone Jack Wilshere likely to leave the club in the summer, we feel bringing in Lopez for a bargain fee would be a huge boost for manager David Moyes, giving him more quality in the midfield department.
The 22-year-old could be considered as a pass-master, shown by his 89.5% pass completion average in the French top-flight this term (WhoScored), considerably higher than Noble’s 81.8% rate in the Premier League.
Lopez is also pretty versatile, proven by the fact that he has operated on the flank a couple of times this season, potentially showing that he is willing to play wherever required for the benefit of the team.
