Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Declan Rice will fit in well at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, according to an interview with Football Insider.
As reported by Sky Sports, the Blues are interested in making a summer move for Rice.
Robinson believes that the Englishman would be a good addition to the Chelsea squad if he made the switch. As quoted in the report, Robinson said:
The way that he plays at his age, there is more to come, and maybe Frank sees that in him being a midfielder himself.
His mate (Mason) Mount is there as well so it would be an easy transition for him. Frank is building and he fits the mould.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Rice was released by Chelsea as a schoolboy and their loss has been West Ham’s gain as the midfielder has proved to be a reliable first-team option.
We believe that Rice could find it difficult at Chelsea, mainly because of the level of competition in midfield at the club.
Lampard has a host of options to select from, including Jorginho, N’golo Kante, Billy Gilmour and Mateo Kovacic, meaning that Rice may not start every single game if he moves to Stamford Bridge.
That is something which he is doing for the Hammers, proven by the fact that he has played every Premier League minute for the club this season (Transfermarkt).
Rice may need to earn his spot in the Chelsea team and that could take time, so we feel staying with West Ham and leading the team forward could be the best possible option for his personal development.
