According to Claret and Hugh, Ryan Fredericks could be sold by West Ham United this summer and we feel this should delight Hammers fans.
As stated in the report, the full-back could be surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, with the Hammers ready to listen to offers for the right-back.
Fredericks has had an injury-riddled season so far and has seen his starting spot secured by teenager Jeremy Ngakia.
We feel that Hammers fans shouldn’t be disappointed if the club decide to offload the 27-year-old.
Firstly, because of the rise of Ngakia.
The young right-back has impressed since being introduced into the first-team, playing well against dangerous wingers like Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Keeping hold of Fredericks could hinder his development, as well as academy star Ben Johnson, who has also been impressing recently for the Under-23s.
Furthermore, it could be a positive move to let him go because of his injury woes.
He has missed seven matches in the league this season with hamstring and shoulder problems and if he can’t prove to be fit on a consistent basis, then we believe that offloading him could be the best decision for all involved.
Additionally, his displays on the pitch seem to be dipping.
As stated on the official Premier League website, the Englishman has not blocked a single shot in the league this season and has only made 17 interceptions in 20 appearances.
He’s only worth £4.5m according to Transfermarkt and earns £40,000-a-week at the club (Spotrac) but we feel that preferring younger options over him could benefit the club more in the long-term.
