West Ham defender Ryan Fredericks will now be out for over six weeks after the player had surgery to repair damage to an injury picked up against Manchester City last week.
West Ham confirmed in a statement that the defender had surgery after suffering ligament damage on his right shoulder.
This means that West Ham could keep youngster Jeremy Ngakia in the team after the youngster impressed against Liverpool on Monday night.
The defender led the game in tackles and was able to cope well when facing one of the strongest attacks in the game at Anfield in an eventual 3-2 defeat for West Ham.
Ngakia was chosen over veteran Pablo Zabaleta, who is also an option for David Moyes at right back.
Several West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to praise the defender, and plead with David Moyes to keep him in the team after the news about Fredericks was revealed by the club.
