Mark Lawrenson has taken aim at West Ham’s defence ahead of their clash with Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Writing in his BBC Sport column, Lawrenson revealed that he hopes that the Hammers have worked on their defence during the winter break, after their second-half collapse against Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month.
The Hammers sit in the bottom three of the Premier League, without a win since New Year’s Day.
Lawrenson wrote:
West Ham will also have benefited from some time training together, especially at the back. The one thing Hammers boss David Moyes will have been working on is defensively, because they were woeful at the back last time out in their draw with Brighton.

We feel as if the Hammers have been very poor defensively this season, as said by Lawrenson.
West Ham have conceded the fourth-most goals in the top flight this season, with David Moyes’ side shipping over 43 goals so far this campaign.
This is not a stat any side in the top-flight wants to have, especially considering that West Ham themselves have only notched 30 goals this season.
If the club are to have any hope of staying up, then David Moyes simply has to get his side to start conceding less, something that could be difficult considering their run-in.
He could throw some different players into the mix, although West Ham are light in replacements, especially after the Hammers failed to sign another right-back in January.
However, they already face a difficult task due to their fixture list, which could mean that the Hammers are already doomed.
Trips to the Etihad, Anfield and the Emirates are coming up, which could see West Ham’s goal difference continue to get worse, something that will not help them in their fight for survival.
