West Ham United attacker Manuel Lanzini played the entire 90 minutes as the Hammers fell to a 4-1 defeat to Leicester City on Wednesday night.
David Moyes’ side were easily defeated at the King Power Stadium and the manager again used a system which had two strikers, Lanzini being one of them.
Most fans were not happy with his display and feel that he is no longer good enough to play for the club.
When the team news was announced on Twitter, hundreds of fans voiced their discontent with seeing Lanzini’s name in the starting XI.
This got us thinking, who could be starting in his place?
The answer, based on his current form, could be anyone in East London, but judging by what Moyes has available to him, we’ve identified three players who could come in.
The Hammers have two home games coming up. First, they host West Brom in the fourth round of the FA Cup before facing Liverpool in the Premier League.
Pablo Fornals
He is the most popular choice amongst the majority of West Ham fans. A simple browse of the replies to the tweet of the lineup before the Leicester clash will show you this. Fornals was getting into some good form before the arrival of Moyes but has been given limited minutes since then. Fornals was brought on at the interval but the Hammers were already chasing the game.
Michail Antonio
The versatile player was back in the squad for the Leicester clash and even got on the pitch for the entire second half. With Moyes playing two strikers, Antonio seems like the natural choice to partner Haller up front in the next league match.
Albian Ajeti
Ajeti is a man who has not yet got his golden chance at West Ham. Lanzini’s poor form could hand him just that. The youngster has had to remain patient and many fans want to see him on the pitch.
Andriy Yarmolenko
The winger is still injured, so can’t replace Lanzini in the next XI but When Yarmolenko is fully fit, there’s no doubt that he should be in the team ahead of Lanzini.
