Wolves leading West Ham in race to land Edson Alvarez

Wolves are reportedly leading a host of European sides, including West Ham, in the race to sign Club America centre-back Edson Alvarez.

According to Record, cited by SportsMole, Wolves have made the ‘best financial package’ to the Mexican side for the highly-rated 21-year-old.

Scottish champions Celtic, along with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, are also keen on the defender, who recently helped Mexico to Gold Cup glory.

Manuel Pellegrini is keen on adding to his squad in all areas ahead of the new season and the Hammers have looked at the youngster as a possible summer arrival.

Alvarez has been a regular for club and country in recent seasons and was the youngest member of the Mexico squad at the 2018 World Cup, turning out on four occasions in Russia.

West Ham reportedly made a recent bid for the versatile defender, but it looks like the Hammers will face an upwards battle to bring Alvarez to the London Stadium following the latest report.
