West Ham are set to break their transfer record and sign Maxi Gomez, according to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol.
The Celta Vigo forward has been linked with a move to the Hammers throughout the summer, with a host of clubs thought to be interested in him.
It looks as though West Ham have got their man, however, in what could be a significant deal for them.
Solhekol took to Twitter to confirm the news of Gomez’s imminent arrival, saying:
Big statement of intent by West Ham. Set to break club record by signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo for £45m.
Valencia have dropped out. Gomez turning down Champions League football at Valencia to join West Ham.
It is huge that Gomez has rejected a move to Valencia, despite the obvious lure of playing in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old was one of La Liga’s most exciting young players last season, scoring 13 times in all competitions for Celta Vigo.
Gomez also has 12 caps to his name for Uruguay, with many seeing him as a future star man for his country, once Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have moved on.
