West Ham United are reportedly attempting to pip Lazio to the signing of Slovakia international Denis Vavro.
According to claims from Italian news outlet Il Messaggero, the Hammers have made a late effort to clinch a deal for the defender, who enjoyed an impressive season at Copenhagen.
Lazio appear to be close to completing the signing of Vavro, but it seems they will not do so without opposition at the eleventh hour, with West Ham muscling in to compete.

The 23-year-old appears to be all but set for a move to the Italian capital, rendering the Hammers’ attempts insufficient, but no transfer has been confirmed as of yet.
Lazio are understood to be paying an initial fee worth €9 million to Copenhagen for the signing of the central defender, with an additional €1.5 million likely to be spent in bonuses.
West Ham seem to be on the lookout for added reinforcements at the back this summer, but in a last-gasp effort to land Vavro, Il Messaggero indicates that they will be unsuccessful.
