West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta has hailed the work ethic that his side showed in the recent win against Everton.
Speaking to the Hammers’ official club website, as cited in a report from Football London, the experienced defender was quick to note that the intensity on display by the visitors was key as they secured their first points of the season.
We improved the intensity. Everyone worked so hard for the 95 minutes and that is what you need, especially in this league.
You need to give everything, 100%, every single game, with everyone working hard for each other. You need concentration on all the corners, free-kicks, set plays, especially as this ground is a difficult one to get a result at.
West Ham had lost their previous four Premier League fixtures, leaving them rooted to the foot of the table. However, the win at Goodison Park has lifted them out of the relegation zone as they look to push on under Manuel Pellegrini.
Zabaleta turned in a cultured display on Merseyside as West Ham’s forward players were able to inflict plenty of damage upon Marco Silva’s Everton side.
It was crucial to get three points to lift the confidence of the lads a little bit. It was a great performance from the whole team, defensively and offensively, and I’m so happy with it.
Andriy Yarmolenko netted a fine first-half brace and Marko Arnautovic sealed the win for West Ham following Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.
