According to a report from Spanish news outlet Sport, a West Ham official flew over to Barcelona a couple of days ago to enquire about securing Rafinha’s services.
The talented 25-year-old midfielder came through Barcelona’s academy and has made just under 50 appearances for the Catalan-based club. However, it seems that he is now surplus to requirements and the club are now willing to cash in on him this summer.
The Brazilian spent the second half of last season on loan at Inter Milan, who were then given the option of signing the midfielder permanently for €35 million. However, the Milan-based club are a bit strapped for cash at the moment, so are unwilling to fork out that much money for his services.
Rafinha is now back at his parent club and his future remains uncertain. It’s thought that he’d like to return to Inter, but Barcelona are unwilling to budge on their asking price.
Talks with the West Ham official reportedly went well and they were interested in the conditions that the Barcelona board put forward. However, they’ll have to wait and see how the upcoming negotiations with Inter turn out.
If nothing materialises, West Ham can evidently pounce and acquire the services of a very talented midfielder.
