Rather astonishingly, West Ham are being linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
A report from Spanish news outlet Diario Gol claims the Frenchman could be sold this summer and West Ham are willing to break the bank for the experienced striker.
It’s stated that the Hammers would be willing to smash their transfer record by swooping for Benzema in an unlikely £53m deal. The player, however, is stated to be reluctant to move to West Ham.
The report is a rather out of the blue one, given West Ham’s characteristic reluctance to spend in the transfer market. Benzema is still regarded as one of the world’s best strikers and the links with West Ham are bizarre to say the very least.
Benzema, if he does opt to leave Real this summer, will likely move to another Champions League club. West Ham are currently fighting relegation and a move for a player of Benzema’s calibre seems a world away.
Diario Gol’s report is rather unusual but it seems West Ham are indeed on the lookout for a quality striker, nevertheless.
