Player Ratings: Wigan 2-0 West Ham

Given that the Hammers came into this game with 12 first-team players sidelined by injury, David Moyes’ hand was forced this afternoon in regards to his team selection.

In what resembled a 4-4-2 formation, West Ham fielded four fullbacks and six defenders against League One outfit Wigan and the lack of a cutting edge was evident straight from the get-go.

The League One side took the lead early on when Will Grigg headed home from the back post and things went from bad to worse when Pedro Obiang was stretchered off with a suspected knee injury.

Joao Mario was handed his debut off the bench at half-time but he was unable to provide a spark for a pretty lifeless West Ham side that went two behind when Grigg converted from the spot.

West Ham crash out of the FA Cup this season at the second hurdle but now they can focus on their Premier League exploits. Here are our player ratings.
