According to The Telegraph, West Ham will look to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere if they fail in their efforts to bring in Andre Gomes on loan from Barcelona.
Wilshere, who has been pictured as a youngster in a West Ham shirt, has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer, as he looks for first-team football and as Arsene Wenger looks to free up places and wages in his squad.
West Ham have been one of many clubs interested in Wilshere, but they’re also hoping to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona on loan.
Although no offer for both players have been tabled by the Hammers, they are expected to battle Tottenham to get Gomes’ services but if Spurs win that battle then the Hammers will turn their attention to Wilshere.

West Ham have been targeting a new central midfielder all summer and they have stepped up their interest in a player from that position after a very poor start to the Premier League season, losing 4-0 to Manchester United, 3-2 to Southampton and 3-0 to Newcastle.
In these games, West Ham’s midfield, as well as the whole team, have come under major scrutiny by fans and pundits.
