West Ham’s newest addition to the squad Javier Hernandez has revealed to Sky Sports that he turned down offers from Spain and Italy in order to get a move to West Ham.
After completing a £16m move to the London Stadium, this transfer was described by co-chairman of West Ham David Sullivan as “potentially [West Ham’s] greatest ever signing.”
The Mexican striker has now been involved with training as part of West Ham’s pre-season tour of germany, ahead of two games against Werder Bremen.
After being at Bayern Leverkusen for two seasons, he finally decided it was time for a move back to England, with Hammers manager Slaven Bilic chasing the 29-year-old ever since he became manager.
Chicharito made 54 appearances for the German side and added 28 goals during those games.
When speaking to Sky Sports about his move to the Hammers, he stated:
There were other options – one in Spain and two in Italy. The last two transfers I made on the last day, this time it was more calm and easy. Thankfully I’m where I want to be. It was a little bit simple really. I’m in the best league in the world and West Ham showed me a lot of confidence and trust.
