As reported by Sky Sports, West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate has been ruled out for the start of the new Premier League season with a knee injury.
Kouyate suffered the injury in West Ham’s preseason training camp in Austria ,meaning that he missed their 0-0 draw with Sturm Graz II on Monday.
There were some initial fears that the Senegalese star had suffered a major injury, one that could require surgery but manager Slaven Bilic told the press that the issue isn’t too serious.

He said:
It is a big shame that Cheikhou got injured in one of our early training sessions and it was out of nothing. He did his knee and he is going to miss the first few games of the season. It was a freak injury and it is a blow for us. He doesn’t need surgery and the injury is not a bad one, but he needs rehab now.
West Ham expect to be without Kouyate for their games against Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle United, but hope that he’ll be fit to return for the home game against Huddersfield Town on September 11th.
