According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are set to insist on a buy back clause for young Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho as he is set for a move to West Ham.
Slaven Bilic’s side are hopeful of securing the signature of the young forward who is also reportedly being targeted by Leicester City and Everton.
Iheanacho has only started five games at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola all season, so it is no surprise that the player himself is looking for a way out for regular game time.
East London is said to be his preferred destination but Manchester City will not sell without a buy back clause as he clearly has potential, scoring four Premier League goals in 2016/17 and two in the Champions League .
The striker has previously spoken about his need for first team football in need to build his confidence and with Andy Carroll’s constant injury problems, he would surely be the main man at the Olympic Stadium.
West Ham will negotiate for the clause to be double what they pay but it looks like City will want it to be around the £30m mark.
The 20-year-old has a fine international record to scoring five goals in eight games so it is clear to see why he is being heavily sought after with his clinical ability in-front of goal.
Most clubs nowadays insert a release clause into a contract when selling a younger player. Real Madrid brought back Alvaro Morata from Juventus for a cut price and he has turned out to be a success.
This is the same line of thinking that City have. As Iheanacho grows more and more experienced in the Premier League, he could once again be back wearing the light blue of Manchester City.
