It’s Derby Day on Monday night when a shaky West Ham side take on Antonio Conte’s rampant Chelsea side who do not look like slowing down anytime soon but in a Derby, who knows what can happen?
Team News
West Ham – After a few weeks on the sidelines, Andy Carroll is expected to return to the side on Monday night, this is a massive boost to the Hammers as it was obvious in the draws against West Brom and Watford that West Ham lacked a presence in the final third, which Carroll definitely brings to the team. Diafra Sakho, Angelo Ogbonna and Gokhan Tore all remain out with long-term injuries.
Chelsea – Arguably Chelsea’s and the Premier League’s best player this season, Eden Hazard, picked up a knock in training on Wednesday but Antonio Conte said in his pre-match press conference that “Nothing important [injury wise] apart from a little problem for Eden Hazard, he got kicked when we began training again on Wednesday but I think it is nothing serious.” He added by saying “The rest of the team is in good fitness and we are working very well.”
Predicted Lineups
West Ham – (4-2-3-1) – Randolph; Kouyate, Fonte, Reid, Cresswell; Noble, Obiang; Feghouli, Lanzini, Snodgrass; Carroll.
Chelsea – (3-4-3) – Courtois; Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill; Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Costa, Hazard.
History
In recent years, West Ham have fared quite well when coming up against Chelsea, with their last encounter ending in a 2-1 win at the London Stadium on a special night of EFL Cup action, which was sadly overshadowed by crowd trouble.
Prediction
In their last six games, West Ham have improved vastly compared to the beginning of the season, winning three, drawing two and losing 1 in the Premier League. However, Chelsea are pulling away from the title contenders with four wins and two draws from their last six Premier League matches.
Although West Ham have picked up form recently, Chelsea haven’t looked like slowing down anytime soon.
West Ham 1-3 Chelsea.
