Andy Carroll has enjoyed some fine moments this season, none finer than when his goal of the season worthy scissor-kick helped West Ham to a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, but those moments have always been few and far between.
While he seems set to return to the pitch next Monday night against Chelsea after a month-long absence with a groin strain, we might not have seen him return at all.
The Mirror have revealed that before the Chinese Super League’s transfer deadline on Tuesday, West Ham received a £32m offer from an unnamed club in China for Carroll which they rejected.
Hebei China Fortune, Tianjin Quanjian and Shandong Luneng Taishan have all been credited with interest in the target man striker but the Hammers were unwilling to let him go and be even shorter in attack for the remainder of the season.
Carroll has four goals in his last four appearances but a knee injury in the Autumn, in addition to his recent groin struggles, have limited him to just nine Premier League starts this term.
The 28-year-old was the Hammers’ record-signing prior to Andre Ayew’s £20.5m arrival from Swansea last summer and has scored 29 goals in 108 appearances for the club.
