West Ham United vs Sunderland Match Preview

West Ham United will be looking to push on from their last game after a victorious trip to Selhurst Park last Saturday, beating Crystal Palace 1-0. They will face an out-of-form Sunderland who will be seeking their first ever Premier League win under David Moyes when they make the trip to the London Stadium on Saturday.

Team News

West Ham – West Ham were given a huge boost this week after record signing Andre Ayew was back in first team training for the first time after the injury he suffered at Stamford Bridge on the first game of the season. However, he is unlikely to feature against Sunderland.

After returning from injury in West Ham’s win against Crystal Palace, Aaron Cresswell will be suspended for the match against the Black Cats after being sent off for two bookable offences last Saturday.

Andy Carroll has faced another injury set-back this week and will be back in the squad later than expected.

Diafra Sakho, Arthur Masuaku and Sam Byram are all still unavailable.

Sunderland – Defensive duo Lamine Kone and Patrick van Aanholt returned to full first team training this week ahead of the clash against the Hammers, this would be a massive boost for Sunderland as they’ve looked very shaky and disorganised at the back recently.

Lee Cattermole and Jan Kirchhoff are both unfit to play in the Black Cats’ up and coming fixture with Kirchhoff expected to be out for 8-12 weeks.

Vito Mannone and Seb Larsson are also back in light training.

My Predicted XI’s

West Ham – 4-3-3: Adrian; Arbeloa, Reid, Kouyate, Ogbonna; Lanzini, Obiang, Noble; Antonio, Zaza, Payet.

Sunderland – 4-5-1: Pickford; Manquillo, Kone, Djilobodji, van Aanholt; Watmore, Rodwell, Ndong, McNair, Khazri; Defoe.

Previous Meetings and Prediction

In previous encounters, West Ham have come out on top the majority of time winning 13 of their meetings and only losing 6 with 6 draws.

West Ham will be full of confidence coming into this game after their 1-0 win against Crystal Palace last weekend and they would love to make the London Stadium  feel like home with a good win against Sunderland who have been in really bad form recently.

I can only see one outcome in this match which is a comfortable West Ham win just because Sunderland have looked shocking in recent weeks. My prediction is West Ham 3-0 Sunderland.
