Well, West Ham’s season finally got underway against London rivals Chelsea, Bilic started the season with a fairly recognisable team with Antonio still at right back. Chelsea started their era under new manager Conte who welcomed West Ham to the Bridge. Conte played a fairly recognisable team with new signing and ex-West Ham target Michy Batshuayi on the bench.
West Ham started the game fairly well with Andy Carroll holding the ball up well bringing Valencia into the game. Bilic handed Nordtveit, Ayew and Masuaku their Premier League debuts for the Hammers, however, Ayew’s didn’t last long before being substituted due to injury. Töre was brought on to replace Ayew against his former team Chelsea.
Antonio conceded a penalty fairly early and we conceded, he soon got substituted for Sam Byram who in my opinion should have started there. A lot of Chelsea possession with very few West Ham attacks.
The game had everything from penalty appeals to even sending off appeals, but all in all, it was a night to forget for Hammers fans. The entrance of Dimitri Payet gave the Hammers a sense of hope. However, the possession play produced by Chelsea made the game feel very dull and boring.
