West Ham United have broken their record transfer fee and completed the signing of Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, it has been confirmed. The Hammers have paid £20.5million for the 26-year-old and he has committed his future to the club by signing a long-term contract.

The Welsh side signed Ayew last summer from Marseille on a free transfer and he impressed in his debut Premier League season with 12 goals in 34 appearances, and fitted the club’s profile of a forward who had already adapted to life in the top tier of English football.

Ayew’s arrival has quashed any fears that the club would struggle to bring in some serious striking options this summer, following the failures to attract bigger starts such as Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi.
He also has 11 goals in 67 appearances for the Ghanaian national side and is expected to feature in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which takes place in January and February, so more transfer activity is expected to occur in East London.
Although a striker by trade, Ayew can play on the wing and also fulfil the number ten position which gives his new manager Slaven Bilic a few options to tinker with in the upcoming campaign.
