Premier League rivals winning battle for Valencia

Swansea City are winning the race to sign West Ham United attacker Enner Valencia, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

It is reported that Swansea have outbid Italian side Lazio for the Ecuadorian forward, offering €10m, with a potential €3m in add-ons, bringing the total deal to around £11m.

Lazio are prepared to pay €2m for a season-long loan, with a fixed option to buy him for €10m euros at the end of the next campaign.

The winger-cum-striker is now edging for a move away from West Ham, after a mixed two years in East London.

After an impressive 2014 World Cup with Ecuador, the Hammers beat an array of competitors to win the 26-year-old’s signature. He arrived from Mexican outfit Pachuca for £12 million.

He was used very heavily under Sam Allardyce in his debut Premier League season, featuring 32 times, scoring four goals. Under Slaven Bilic, though, Valencia found himself struggling for game-time, making just 15 appearances last term.

The Swans are now desperate for some new strikers, having sold Alberto Paloschi and Portugal’s Euro 2016 hero, Eder. Bafetimbi Gomis is also set to leave Wales, leaving Francesco Guidolin with no recognised strikers ahead of next season.

With both offers deemed acceptable by West Ham, it’s now down to Valencia to decide where he wants to move to, with Lazio and Serie A believed to be his preference.
