West Ham’s pre-season got off to a slow start last night as the boys lost 3-0 to MLS outfit Seattle Sounders.
Sounders, midway through their season, were too much for the Hammers, less than half a week into their pre-season schedule.
Maybe we shouldn’t take too much away from the game, the performance and see it purely as a fitness exercise against a superior opposition.
The group now know they’ve got a long way to go with just over three weeks until their Europa League third qualifying round fixture at the end of July.
First-team coach Julian Dicks spoke to ReadWestHam after the game, and praised one of their newest recruits, Domingos Quina on his performance.
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder signed from Chelsea earlier this summer and has been invited along to first-team training to get to know the group and acclimatise to life as a Hammer.
“I think he’s done okay,” First Team Coach Julian Dicks said postgame. “He’s very positive […] He’s just got to know the boys as well, so it’s going to take him a while, but you see he has ability.”
Quina started as a sub but came on to play on the left-wing in the second half and flashed a few moments of brilliance in what was a largely underwhelming outing for West Ham.
