New West Ham signing Domingos Quina is eager to use pre-season to impress the Hammers coaching staff ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
The 16-year-old started out in the Benfica academy following in his father, Samuel’s, footsteps. Quina believes there are many talented young prospects at Benfica.
“Benfica is one of the best schools to learn football in Europe, we must be honest. They have many high quality young people.” he told Portuguese source Record.
At the age of 13, Quina made the move to England to join the academy set up at Chelsea. He spent three years in West London, despite never signing a contract with the club.
The attacking midfielder was part of the Portuguese side which won the U17 European Championships where he caught the eye of West Ham who moved swiftly to pen him to a professional contract.
Quina is excited with the opportunity presented to him and he just wants to take his chance.
“I started playing football at school, then went to Benfica and now I’m here in the first team of West Ham. I’m very excited. I just want to take the chance.”
He, along with the likes of Toni Martinez, a summer arrival from Valencia, Lewis Page, Declan Rice and Moses Makasi have all been invited along to join the West Ham first-team in their pre-season tour of the US. All four are expected to play some role in tonight’s game against the Seattle Soundrs at CenturyLink Field.
What can we expect from the young man? Well, Quina says that he’s a skillful player who’s always looking to surprise defenders. He wants to excite the fans and ultimately enjoy his football.
“I have got some skills and I like to surprise people and do things that they aren’t expecting.
“I like to be exciting and do things in different ways to the way other people do them.
“I try to enjoy it and not think about the other players on the pitch and what they have done. I try to be myself and enjoy it.”
