West Ham have made it very clear that their priority this summer is to sign a striker, even though their search has been somewhat unsuccessful so far.
After having a number of unsuccessful bids knocked back by Lyon for Alexandre Lacazette, West Ham turned their attentions to Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi.
Marseille are desperate to offload the 24-year-old to West Ham in order to avoid facing a transfer embargo for failing to meet DNCG regulations, but – in typical modern-day footballer fashion – the Belgian striker is willing to wait for a ‘better offer’.
Not only have the Hammers faced rejection from Lyon and Marseille, but they also failed with approaches for Callum Wilson of Bournemouth and Carlos Bacca of AC Milan earlier this summer too.
We have decided to compile a short-list of five realistic alternative striker targets for West Ham to consider, should they cool their interest in Batshuayi as well as Lacazette.
