A dull goalless draw with Slovakia on Monday saw England finish second, behind Wales, in Group B. The result was a hammer blow, though some fans didn’t quite realise it at the time.
England are now on the same side of the bracket as Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Had they topped the group, England’s route to the final could have been (using the bookies odds to predict each game’s winner) Northern Ireland, Belgium then Croatia.
