The Hammers have signed the 22-year-old from Championship side Leeds United for an undisclosed fee having beaten Everton in the race for Englishman.
Byram plays either right back or right midfield and likes to get on the score sheet. He’s scored nine goals for Leeds since 2012, which is a decent record for a young full back.
With the signing of Sam Byram West Ham now have three players that can play at right back, but the youngster has a great chance of playing regularly in the first team.
James Tomkins, who has played most of this season at right back, is naturally a centre-half whilst Carl Jenkinson, who is on a season-long loan from Arsenal has been putting in under-par performances this season, and it’s looking ever more unlikely that his deal will be made permanent.
