West London Sport are reporting that West Ham are after 17 year-old Orji Okonkwo along with London rivals Chelsea.
Okonkwo is owned by St Thomas FC and his ‘agent’ is his mother. West Ham and Chelsea have apparently opened discussions with his mother over a possible move to London.
The 17 year-old impressed massively in the recent under-17 World Cup especially in the semi-final against Mexico. His performance, which included a goal scored from 35 yards, has meant that scouts of the highest calibre are now tracking him.
Okonkwo, should he join West Ham, would join a development squad full of promise with the likes of Elliot Lee, Josh Cullen and Reece Oxford all pushing for squad places. The Nigerian would also be able to flourish in the home of youth football at West Ham.
The Hammers already have one Nigerian playing for the side in Victor Moses and would be hopeful of adding Okonkwo to the squad.
Okonkwo would be probably be ‘one for the future’ but if he fulfils his potential then he could easily become a regular for West Ham.
