David Gold has confirmed today on Twitter that West Ham hope to have on-loan Barcelona midfielder Alex Song fit by the end of October. The Cameroonian international joined the Hammers on deadline day, but was carrying the knee injury that has been keeping him out of action.
He spent last season on loan with the East London club, however a permanent deal could not be secured, so another temporary arrangement was made.
Song, who made 31 appearances for West Ham last season, is hopeful for the clash with Chelsea on October 24, which comes a week before the match against Watford on Halloween.
Whether he will be able to break straight into the team is questionable, with the club’s impressive performances seeing them sit currently third in the table, with only the Manchester clubs above them. He will have to compete with the likes of Mark Noble and fellow new signing Pedro Obiang in order to win a place in the starting eleven.
