West Ham’s midfielder deal fell through at the last minute due to injury

According to German media outlet BILD, West Ham United had agreed a fee for Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan, but medical reasons prevented the deal from reaching completion.

It is subsequently being touted that due to the Turkish Super Lig man suffering from cruciate ligament, which is keeping him out of action until the new year, that the East London club then opted to sign Barcelona man Alex Song on loan for a second season in a row.

Slaven Bilic signed the 25-year-old from Hamburg whilst managing at his former club, and was clearly impressed with Arslan’s performances. A £5.8million deal was said to be in place earlier this summer, however the serious injury lay-off meant that the deal was called off.

A product of the Borussia Dortmund academy, Arslan has no caps at international level for neither Germany nor Turkey. As the deal never went through, we shall never know how good a player Arslan would have been in a claret and blue shirt.
