East London club West Ham United are reportedly interested in French defender Kevin Malcuit, according to French media outlet RMC Sport. French top tier sides St Etienne and Nice are also said to be tracking the full-back.
However, the Hammers have begun negotiations with Ligue 2 outfit Niort with regards to the signing of the 24-year-old. He could be touted as a possible replacement for Guy Demel, who was released earlier in the transfer window.
Malcuit also possesses fantastic versatility, meaning that if necessary he can play on the wing in a more advanced position. He started off his footballing career at Monaco, but failed to break into the first team.
He has scored two goals in 38 appearances for his current club in the second division of French football but has never made an international appearance for the French national team.
If he were to sign, Malcuit would be Slaven Bilic’s tenth summer arrival, as the Irons look to prepare for a home game against Bournemouth this weekend.
