According to Peter O’Rourke of ESPN FC, West Ham United are keeping tabs on Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, as the East London club look set to miss out on the signing of Barcelona man Alex Song.
The 28-year-old made the move to Anfield in the year of 2007, and has enjoyed a successful spell at one of the biggest clubs in world football. However, he did not play a part in the away win at Stoke on the opening weekend, meaning perhaps Brendan Rodgers does not see a place for him in the side this season.
Lucas has not scored a goal since September 2010, but has made 196 appearances in the Premier League. The Hammers are in the market for a defensive midfielder, with Queens Park Rangers’ Joey Barton also being linked with a move to the Boleyn Ground.
In the 2010/11 campaign, Lucas was named Liverpool’s Player of the Season, and he then went on to enjoy League Cup success the following year. The Irons fans will be hoping that this potential signing would bring silverware to Upton Park.
