According to Duncan Castles of the Sunday Times, Premier League side West Ham United have opened negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over the potential signing of Islam Slimani.
The Algerian striker is being valued at around £10.5million, and definitely would boost Slaven Bilic’s squad. Fellow front-men Enner Valencia and Andy Carroll are currently suffering from injury problems, so Slimani would provide valuable cover.
The 27-year-old signed for the Portuguese capital city club in the summer of 2013 and scored two goals in the UEFA Champions League during the 2014/15 campaign.
With the recent arrival of new manager Jorge Jesus, Slimani may perhaps not be in the new manager’s plans and would, therefore, want to seek a move away.
Slimani impressed at the recent World Cup tournament in Brazil, in the summer of 2014, where he scored two goals in four matches at the finals. He has 15 goals for the Algerian national team in less than forty games, and would be a top buy for the club.
